Paddle Yoga

You may have seen people paddling these boards around your local lake or even on Lake Michigan. Stand up paddleboarding, or SUP, is a fun and relaxing way to be out on the water, not to mention a great workout that builds core strength and balance. Practicing yoga on the stand up paddleboard adds a whole new dimension of core challenge, and the balance and focus required will take your practice to a new level. This fun class will challenge your core and rejuvenate your spirit!

Imagine the sun on your face, a gentle breeze blowing across your skin, as you lift your self into upward facing dog, or floating weightlessly in savasana, fingers dipping into the cool water during your final relaxation.

This class is open to all levels, whether you are new to paddling, or new to yoga, or both. Basic paddle instruction will be given at the start of each class. If you have any questions or would like to register for classes, please contact us at the link below.

FAQ:

Q: I've never been on a stand up paddleboard. Can I do Paddle Yoga? A: Of course. Basic paddle instruction will be given at the start of each class. The boards we use are also nice and wide. Wide = stable!
Q: What should I wear? A: Wear your bathing suit, board shorts, or something you plan on getting wet. This is a water sport, and everyone (including instructors) ends up falling in the water at some point.
Q: Anything else I should bring? A: Sunscreen, towel, change of clothes, (left in the car) and a water bottle. You may also want a hat or sunglasses. Water bottles with a loop to clip to the board are best, and you may want a strap for your sunglasses, in case they slip or you fall into the water.
Q: How do I get my paddle board? A: The boards will be at the park waiting for you. This is why pre-registration is required, so we know how many boards to bring!
Q: I can barely do yoga in the studio. Why would I want to do paddle board yoga? A: It's fun! Yoga on the paddle board is a completely different experience than being in the studio. There are some paddle yogis who only practice on the water and never set foot inside a studio! If you enjoy a challenge, being outdoors, or floating on the water, or want to build strength and improve balance, give it a try!
Q: Do I need to know how to swim? A: Yes.
